WCAG 1.0 (1999) used 14 checkpoints; WCAG 2.0 (2008) reorganised into the four POUR principles with testable success criteria and A/AA/AAA levels (later ISO/IEC 40500). WCAG 2.1 (2018) added mobile/low-vision/cognitive criteria; 2.2 (2023) added focus appearance, target size, dragging, accessible authentication. WCAG 3.0 is in development.
